3D Secure 2.0 (3DS2) Authentication Protocol
What is 3D Secure 2.0?
3D Secure 2.0 (officially EMVCo 3DS2) is an authentication protocol jointly developed by major card networks including Visa (Verified by Visa), Mastercard (SecureCode), American Express (SafeKey), and Discover (ProtectBuy). It adds an additional layer of identity verification when a cardholder makes a payment, significantly reducing the risk of unauthorized card use and fraudulent transactions.
How 3DS2 Works with Your Flights:
- Passive Authentication (Frictionless Flow): For low-risk transactions, 3DS2 authenticates the cardholder in the background using device fingerprinting, IP analysis, and transactional data — with no action required from you.
- Active Authentication (Challenge Flow): For higher-risk transactions or when passive data is insufficient, you may be asked to verify your identity via a one-time password (OTP) sent to your registered mobile number or email, a biometric confirmation on your banking app, or a knowledge-based answer — depending on your issuing bank's implementation.
- Decline on Authentication Failure: If 3DS2 authentication fails or is declined by the card issuer, Your Flights reserves the right to decline the transaction and request an alternative payment method to protect both the cardholder and the merchant from fraud.
By completing a payment transaction with Your Flights, you acknowledge that 3DS2 authentication may be applied and that the authentication result is shared with your issuing bank in accordance with card network rules.
Liability Shift: Successful 3DS2 authentication shifts chargeback liability for fraudulent transactions from the merchant to the card issuer, in accordance with card network regulations. Transactions completed under a successful 3DS2 authentication that are subsequently disputed as unauthorized will be defended with the authentication evidence and liability shift documentation.
PCI-DSS Compliance and Payment Card Security
Your Flights is committed to maintaining compliance with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS) as published by the PCI Security Standards Council.
- No Raw Card Storage: We do not store raw credit or debit card numbers, CVV codes, or PIN numbers on our internal systems at any time. Payment card data entered during a transaction is transmitted directly to our PCI-DSS Level 1 certified payment processing partner.
- Tokenization: After a transaction is authorized, only a secure token (a non-reversible surrogate value) is retained on our systems for reference purposes. This token cannot be used to reconstruct the original card number.
- Encrypted Transmission: All payment data is transmitted using 256-bit SSL/TLS encryption. Our payment forms do not pass card data through our web servers — they connect directly to our payment processor's secure environment.
- Employee Access Controls: Only authorized and trained personnel with legitimate business need have access to payment-related systems, and all access is logged and auditable.
- Annual Compliance Audits: Our payment systems and processes are reviewed annually for PCI-DSS compliance. Our payment processing partner maintains a current PCI-DSS Level 1 Service Provider certificate.
In the event of a payment security concern, please contact us immediately at .
Fraud Prevention Policy and Transaction Monitoring
Your Flights operates a multi-layered fraud prevention framework to protect customers, merchants, and financial institutions from unauthorized transactions:
- Real-Time Transaction Monitoring: All payment transactions are screened in real time by automated fraud detection algorithms that analyze velocity, geographic location, device fingerprint, and behavioral patterns.
- Address Verification Service (AVS): We verify the billing address provided against the address on file with the card issuer for all card-not-present transactions.
- CVV/CVC Verification: Card verification values (CVV2/CVC2/CID) are required for all new card transactions.
- Velocity Controls: Multiple transaction attempts using the same card, IP address, or device within a short timeframe are automatically flagged and may result in temporary transaction suspension.
- Manual Review: High-value transactions, international bookings exceeding certain thresholds, and transactions flagged by automated systems may be subject to manual review by our compliance team before processing.
- Agent Call Verification: For telephone-initiated transactions, our agents verify caller identity through knowledge-based verification questions before processing any payment. Calls are recorded for dispute evidence.
- Blacklist Screening: Known fraudulent card numbers, email addresses, and IP addresses are maintained on an internal deny list and blocked from transacting.
Customers who experience unauthorized charges should contact their issuing bank and Your Flights immediately. We cooperate fully with fraud investigations conducted by card issuers, card networks, and law enforcement.
Zero-Tolerance Policy on Fraudulent Chargebacks
Your Flights maintains an absolute zero-tolerance policy against fraudulent, improper, or "friendly fraud" chargebacks — defined as chargeback disputes filed by a cardholder who did in fact authorize and receive the services described in the transaction, but who disputes the charge to avoid payment.
A chargeback is a legitimate consumer protection mechanism designed for cases of genuine unauthorized card use or material misrepresentation. However, filing a chargeback for a service that was properly authorized, disclosed, and delivered constitutes abuse of the chargeback process and may constitute fraud under applicable federal and state law.
Our Response to Chargeback Disputes:
For any chargeback filed against a Your Flights transaction, we will provide the following documented evidence to the card issuer and card network:
- Full call recording of the transaction authorization, including verbal confirmation of all fees, terms, and the booking details
- Written booking confirmation and e-ticket documentation sent to the customer
- Cardholder authentication records including 3DS2 authentication result, IP address, device fingerprint, and geolocation at time of transaction
- Signed or verbally confirmed authorization evidence
- Proof of service delivery (e-ticket issuance confirmation from the airline GDS system)
- Transaction timestamps, billing descriptors, and agent identification records
If a chargeback is determined by the card network to have been filed fraudulently or without valid basis, Your Flights reserves all rights to pursue recovery through the following means:
- Filing a civil lawsuit in Wyoming state or federal court for recovery of the disputed amount, chargeback fees, legal costs, and applicable damages
- Reporting the incident to the cardholder's bank with a formal fraud allegation
- Referral to law enforcement authorities for investigation under applicable wire fraud, mail fraud, and consumer protection statutes
- Adding the individual's identifying information to internal risk databases used to screen future transactions
We strongly encourage any customer with a billing concern to contact us directly at before initiating a chargeback. In the vast majority of cases, billing discrepancies can be resolved quickly and amicably through direct communication.
